Top 21 Online Casinos - Online casinos ads unpopular in N. Ireland
An unidentified spokesman for the group Gamblers Anonymous says that more and more people are looking for help following the introduction of online casinos to the United Kingdom. “It's far worse now than it ever was. It's everywhere - 24/7. The internet also opened up opportunities for younger people to become involved. We've found that many are absconding from school and that poker and gambling at online casinos is one of the things they're involved in. In a very short space of time you will see growing support to have online casino gambling advertisements banned - just like smoking ads are.”
The issue is of particular relevance following the news this week that online casinos advertisements on the website of a Northern Ireland TV, radio and internet provider have sparked a furor over their existence with members of the clergy and like-minded anti-gambling groups like Gamblers Anonymous, which was mentioned above. Local newspapers reported that the Free Presbyterian Reverend David McIlveen had called such ads “reprehensible” and had called for their removal from a network known to be actively touting family values. The destructive nature of the online casinos ads on Ulster TV’s (UTV) website was of particular concern for the Reverend McIlveen.
Rev McIlveen commented on the rise of online casinos gambling in Northern Ireland, saying that “Ulster TV is trying to create a strong and constructive family image, yet these online casinos gambling ads are highly destructive. The inclusion of any temptation to gamble online is reprehensible – any sort of gambling, in any environment, can ruin lives. I believe they need to review this because it's not as if they need the extra revenue.” There wasn’t any word yet on whether the ads would be removed, though the sponsor of the ads, Party Poker, was known as the ads stated “Join the world's largest online Poker Room”, which Party Poker touts itself as being.
